The genre of action games
One of the most famous genres in the gaming scene and also one of the most played. Although by now the clear gender barriers almost no longer exist, the action genre is one of those with the most sub-genres ever (RPG, stealth, adventure or shooter).
If once the first action games were represented by the hungry Pac-Man or from the rabid Donkey Kong, today all those titles that mix a good dose of adventure in their formula are recognized as action. The saga of The Legend of Zelda, which began in the now distant 1986, is the one that has most redefined the canons of the action game by relegating what was once called action (like poor Pac-Man) to the arcade scene and bringing real essential characteristics into the genre. In fact, a modern action-adventure is built following 3 great principles:
- la history and, usually of a cinematic level, is more present than in other videogame genres and aims to excite and completely enrapture the player (here our guide to cinematic games);
- theaction, which of course remains a fundamental constant of the action and puts the player in adrenaline-pumping, often frenetic situations. With really borderline fights (in the case of FromSoftware games) or with situations where even a simple walk can turn into a quick chase;
- thescouting, the last but very important pillar of the genre. Today's action games are often built inside huge worlds, full of objects to find, characters to meet and missions to complete. Even if they are not real open-worlds, the feeling is that of being inside a rich world that has a story to tell.
That said, the choice of which of these action games to buy is up to the player. Adventure lovers will choose them all, those looking for fast-paced action will prefer titles like God of War e Control, those who want a huge world to explore and a high level of challenge can opt for Elden Ring or get lost in the valleys of Ghost of Tsushima and those who simply want to get excited without giving up a healthy dose of adrenaline can only lean towards the series of Uncharted And that of The Last of Us.
