Arrived on the market just a week ago, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate managed to convince many fans to even buy Nintendo Switch to be played. Behind this Smash fever, there is a very specific reason: the HAL Laboratory fighting game looks great on video, and manages to capture the attention of old and new fans. Of course, those who have already played several chapters of the saga will have no problems with Ultimate, while newbies will struggle a lot, risking to abandon the title prematurely. For the latter, today we have a series of tips with which you can improve your skills and decrease the gap with the CPU and other players.

To start understanding the mechanics of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, please follow the steps below:
- Unlock as many characters as possible (here our guide), so you can choose the fighter that best suits your style. If you don't have time or desire, you can still use Link and Kirby, two of the most effective and available characters right away.
- Go to Games & More - Training and select which character to play with.
- Immediately press the + key, then ZR to open the complete list of moves.
- Memorize the moves and practice first in training and then against the CPU, rapidly improving results.
- Once you have learned the moves, start using the right analog to use the Smash attacks, L / R for the holds and ZL / ZR for the defensive bubble.
- Start The Star of Hope to face more difficult challenges, thanks to the continuous bonuses and penalties you will have.
By doing so, you will improve from game to game, but there is still a lot to learn in order to have your say against other people. Mainly there are three mechanics to master in order to play online:
- Jump.
- Counterattack.
- Tools.
When you are thrown at the far end of the arena, mastering the jump in all its nuances will be essential. In addition to the common leap, in fact, you will have to use L and R to shoot left and right respectively, an action that will make you recover a lot of ground. If that's not enough, we invite you to unleash a high Smash (B + left analog stick up), an action that will usually make your fighter go upwards. The counterattackInstead, it's much easier to do: just deactivate the defensive bubble (ZL / ZR) during the enemy attack, thus gaining a few frames in which you can attack him freely and inflict considerable damage.
Lastly, there are the tools scattered around the map: while they are random, you will always have to pay attention to what will spawn, as failure to use could seriously change the outcome of a match. Simple Poké Balls will donate a helper Pokémon, while the trophy will call a support character and the banana will simply slide. There are many others, and knowing which ones to take and which ones not will be crucial for online matches.

At this point, you should know the character's entire moveset and be able to face other fighters online, or challenge your more experienced friends and give them a hard time.
