Alexa-enabled devices are also designed with a visual indicator, the blue light ring on the Echo, which signals when the device is receiving a request to transmit it to Amazon's secure cloud. Devices with Alexa integration are designed to detect only the chosen activation word (eg Alexa, Amazon, Computer or Echo), or when the Action button (available on some devices) is pressed to activate Alexa. Echo devices can also be configured to play a short beep each time audio is sent to the cloud by going to the Alexa App Settings. Amazon's Echo devices also receive regular security updates, which protect against the latest threats and vulnerabilities. In both cases you can choose to automatically delete the recordings after 3 or 18 months, or not to save them at all. For owners of Alexa-enabled devices, The Alexa Privacy Portal is a globally available resource that provides information on how Alexa and Echo devices work, as well as offering customers a single point of access to their most important privacy settings.
