In general terms, the purpose of the research table is create plans (projects), something that can be very useful for creating various elements that we can use in the game.

If you want to understand how lookup tables work, you will need to know what the plans are. The tops are an element that allows the creation (craftsmanship) of various elements.
The peculiarity of the plans is that allow you to create an object that the user cannot realize at the moment. In other words, by learning a blueprint, the player will acquire the skill or knowledge to create the object depicted on the blueprint.
In any case, keep in mind that using a blueprint will cause its destruction, so you can't give it to another person, and the knowledge to create the item will only be received by your character.
Create the lookup table in Rust
Before you start using the research table you will need to create it, for this you go to the creation menu (crafting / crafting). Once there, go to the items / items / items tab.
Now find the lookup table and click on it. Currently the value for the manufacture of the table is 75 scrap (Scrap) and 200 metal fragments (Metal fragments). If you have all the required items, click on the Create / Create option.
Equip the Research Table and place it anywhere in your lair so you can start using the Research Table. Undoubtedly, it is something fundamental that every user should know, just as important as getting weapons in Rust, as this table will help you move forward.
How to use the lookup table in Rust
The process of using the lookup table is very simple, go to it to start using it. When you do this, you will see that a new menu appears, specifically the menu through which you can create "projects" based on items you have in your inventory.
On the right side of the screen you will find "Object to search" (Object to search), here you must enter the object you want to investigate. To do this, simply drag the object onto the object to search for space.
As you will see, the use of the search table has a cost, this will vary depending on the object you want to search. For this reason, drag the required amount of scrap and click the option " Start search ". If you don't have one, remember that there are several ways to get scrap in Rust. So you can get started, keep in mind that this process will take a few seconds, wait until it is finished.
Eventually, the design of the object you studied will have been created, drag the design to your inventory. Click on the plane and then on the option " Learn Blueprint ”, in this way your character will learn how to make the object investigated.
You can repeat this process as many times as you want, as you will now have the option to create the object. You will only have to provide the amount of elements necessary for the creation of said object.
