2024 opens in a big way with the February event: here is a summary of the more than 40 minutes of announcements seen in the latest Nintendo Direct
It has been in the midst of an avalanche of rumors for weeks, and the Big N hasn't denied the tradition: even the 2024 boasts its handsome Nintendo Direct for the month of February. If the year is going to go well or badly, on the other hand, for the fans of the Kyoto giant it is good to make it clear right away: tonight's event, as always, has set up a show with which to scribble on our calendars. The dogmas we are used to are all there: opening with dedication to the victims of the pandemic, trailers, storytelling, the occasional spotlight for a single game… and, of course, one more thing. Let's try to summarize everything properly.
To begin… Byleth, you again? Weren't we supposed to see each other again?
The Nintendo Direct of February 2024 was able to open with dignity with the unexpected trailer of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. There is not much to add, other than that it is the same approach with which Koei Tecmo gave The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a semi-canonical sequel with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Either way, we will be able to face hordes of enemies as Edelgard, Claude and company. We also have a date, just so we don't miss anything in the initial pull of these real roller coasters. June 24 2024, with pre-orders from now.
Back to the Front - Nintendo Direct February 2024
Of course, the title postponed to 2024 could not be missing from Nintendo Direct in February. Advance Wars 1 + 2 Re-Boot Camp will obviously propose the campaigns of its two games, with the addition of WayForward's artisanal flair. In addition to a cel-shaded graphics and a dubbing for what would seem to be the entire dialogue sector, we have the welcome return of the editor, modes for quick battles and, above all… a release date! We are happy to be able to mark another day on the calendar, and in this case we are talking aboutApril 8 2024. Come on another one!
Nobody's Space - Nintendo Direct February 2024
There are so many latecomers seen on Nintendo Switch recently, and now another third-party title falls from the pear with a stentorian "Is the party here?". We allude to No Man's Sky, which brings with it all its ambitious procedurally generated cosmos; the narrator himself invites us to visit “extraordinary landscapes never seen before”, which however for the love of game design are the same ones that we will probably “never see again”. In this case, among the nebulae the equally ... nebulous exit period stands out, which for now does not unfold beyond a simple (but significant) summer 2024. In short, a good start for the presentation.
“Let's Play, Kick” - Nintendo Direct February 2024
Anyone who has seen the delirious advertisements of the Big N in trade magazines such as the legendary Nintendo The Official Magazine, reading this title will have thought “NO”. But yes, “they really did it”: the recent acquisition of Next Level Games by the Kyoto giant has given a third chapter to what we can now finally define a series. Mario Strikers Battle League Soccer it brings with it an “ignorant” atmosphere as we remembered it, among cel-shaded hyperthires, instruments, customizable equipment, conspiratorial referees and company. June 10 2024, with pre-order now.
That Hunger For Sushi - Nintendo Direct February 2024
It's official: Splatoon 3 seems more than ever willing to present itself as the reference shooter on Switch already starting from the helicopter from which our matches will start. Between thrown eggs and disturbing elements such as the Trivellaccio, the title so far set for a generic "Summer 2024”Surprised us the most when the gameplay shown was revealed for what it was. The Salmon Run mode is back in a big way, with the unpublished name of Salmon Run Next Wave and the desire to let us play many, but many sessions in co-op. We will probably know more in the coming months.
A once in a lifetime mecha - Nintendo Direct February 2024
Remember when Squaresoft, before the wedding with Enix, in the nineties stood out in the sector magazines as a firing squad against the Big N? No, neither do we. Square-Enix's support for Switch in this presentation is out of the question, starting with Front Mission 1st: Remake. The… well, remake of the first Front Mission (we talked about it with Yoko Shimomura) is proposed as a turn-based strategy aboard our trusty Wanzers, or mechas that we can customize as we progress through the game. We only know that we are talking about this summer, but in an unusual move we also know that "the sequel will come in the future". Well so, right?
Okay, confirm 313 and Pi-Kar and nobody gets hurt - Nintendo Direct February 2024
In a move that is not exactly advisable, immediately after a Square-Enix announcement, Disney peeps out. The largest media empire in the world is ready to bring the entire pantheon of the animation sector (and not), including Pixar ... to the circuits of a free-to-play, multi-platform, cross-play kart racer. Wait a minute, huh? We are as confused as you are, especially since the same development team behind the Asphalt series is behind it. Anyway, this summer we can curse each other on the tracks of Disney Speedstorm. We are curious as never before!
First roundup (yes, first) - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
The first quick roundup of the presentation alternates between three ads in very rapid succession. To start, the 20th April we can return to dabble with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, with improved motion controls. Pre-order now. The 17 February (next week!) we can return to lead our enemies to a better life in the height of the Renaissance with Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection. Finally, we will have to settle for a more generic "2024" in the case of SD Gundam: Battle Alliance. Would you believe it if we told you that we are barely one third of the Direct?
The radicals of the dream - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
The Satellaview was Nintendo's first experiment with online: it was an add-on for the Super Famicom, the Japanese Super Nintendo, which involved the continuous exchange of data via satellite. We tell you why Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition brings an already unthinkable (but welcome) PlayStation classic from Square-Enix to the Switch by including an even more unpredictable surprise. Radical Dreamers, a title halfway between the first Chrono Trigger (Super Nintendo) and the aforementioned Chrono Cross, will in fact be included in the reissue. This is the debut of Radical Dreamers in the west, after the debut via Satellaview made it a Japanese exclusive. April 7 2024, pre-order from now.
“Clumsy, nails and goes full throttle to the cry of… poyo” - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
We couldn't resist and paraphrased NRU for the second time to talk about Kirby and the Lost Land. Kirby this time will also be able to absorb vehicles and machinery with the Boccorphosis, adapting his body to all the junk that comes his way. Cars, cones, light bulbs, vending machines: there is everything. The city of Waddle Dee will be a hub world that can be improved as you progress through the game, and the same goes for copying skills. Going forward we can in fact absorb the enemies to get better attacks to prevail over the mysterious "army of beasts". 25 March, pre-order from now.
When PlayStation Studios winks at the Big N - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
As if it weren't already a freaked Direct, now the hitter Shohei Ohtani is in it as well. We already know that MLB The Show 22 it is no longer exclusive to Sony despite being, on balance, a PlayStation Studios title. Now there is an entire segment dedicated to the game in a presentation from Nintendo, presenting the various modes to play baseball in style. This is already strange, let alone see a special treatment. In fact, among the exclusive features of the Switch version we find a total implementation of the Joy-Con motion sensors. In a final burst of irony, the (Sony) title includes cross-play. 5th April, pre-orders from now!
A karrellata with two "k" (no, no Mortal Kombat) - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
The second round of the presentation reminds us, predictably, that the games of Kingdom Hearts (Square's only IP without native versions in Direct) will be technically available "shortly after the presentation ends". What we didn't know, however, was that we would be seeing a certain Bandai Namco IP again! Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series will bring to Switch the first two chapters of the bizarre mammal armed with Aeolus Bullets, or the remake of Door to Phantomile and the remaster of Lunatea's Veil. The wait will also be short: July 8 2024. What about, if not "Wahoo!"?
“It was a triumph, I leave a note here: great success” - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
If you're already singing along to Jonathan Coulton, we have good news for you: the original Chell finally arrives on Nintendo consoles! Both of Valve's legendary first-person view puzzle games make their Switch debut with the one that's been renamed for the occasion Portal: Pet Collection. The local multiplayer of the second episode is also contemplated, although the only icing on the lying cake is a release date that goes a little further. a generic 2024.
Really Live - Nintendo Direct February 2024
Maybe it's a little less surprising than Radical Dreamers' western debut, but we have a second game from Square-Enix finally leaving Japan. It's a matter of LIVE TO LIVE, which for the occasion will take on the prestigious role of HD-2D with which the publisher has already enjoyed success (Octopath Traveler, Triangle Strategy, the remake of Dragon Quest III). Similarly to the spiritual heir Octopath Traveler, also in LIVE A LIVE we will face different scenarios with total freedom on what to start with, including prehistory, west, imperial China, end of the Edo period, present, near and distant future. Appointment for the 22 July, pre-orders from now!
The return of Wii Sports - Nintendo Direct in February 2024
The sequel to the Wii Sports series, after Wii Sports Resort and (technically) Pilotwings Resort, finally takes place on Nintendo Switch with… well, Nintendo Switch Sports. While not bundled with the console, the game will keep us entertained with tennis, bowling (Wii Sports), chanbara (Wii Sports Resort) and the newcomers soccer, badminton and volleyball. Miis return with a more realistic and proportionate redesign, while motion controls remain the same (plus a leg band bundled with the console for playing football). Golf will be added with a free update. Test online it 19 and 20 February for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, release scheduled for 29th April.
Three is the Perfect Number - Nintendo Direct February 2024
We briefly gather in this section three of the many games covered in these lively forty minutes of material. Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival this year brings Bandai Namco's rhythm game back to the crest of the wave, between Megalovania, the theme of The Legend of Zelda and, with a additional payment service, another 500 tracks. Triangle strategy, which surprisingly no one gives up the “Project”, will offer one Prologue Demo at the end of the presentation with transferable saving in the full game upon release (4 March). In the end, Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course the 30nd June, as we already knew.
The Thrill of a Free Update - Nintendo Direct February 2024
Two new modes are coming with a free update for Metroid dread. The first is a mode where our maximum life points will be reduced to 1, specifically named Dread mode. In a diametrically opposite way, newbies will enjoy the Beginner mode for a more permissive difficulty ... at the end of the presentation, that is Now. In an almost unprecedented choice, the update is also extended to the demo of the game. Last but not least (to the tunnel), ad April 2024 we will have a second update called “boss series”… or a mode boss rush with which to face all the bosses one after the other.
Nobody is missing anymore, only the third chapter is not seen (if not at the end of the presentation) - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
We have not covered the news, but it seemed strange if Shigesato Itoi had retweeted the announcement of the Nintendo Direct today ... that is tonight ... that is last night, we understood each other. And indeed, users of Nintendo Switch Online they will be entitled from Now to both the first two MOTHER. We speak specifically of the first, officially known in the West as EarthBound Beginnings, on the Nintendo Entertainment System app, and of course to the second, EarthBound. Ness therefore has a new home, while Lucas (as always) and his MOTHER 3 continue to flee. Fear not, there is still a lot of other good news.
Roundup like Donkey Kong's Mining Carts - Nintendo Direct February 2024
It wouldn't be a Nintendo presentation that's quick enough to make us scream at the screen as our fingers gallop as hard as they can. So here is the usual one tracking shot at breakneck speed del Direct, to which we will naturally dedicate an adequately quick bulleted list. Here is the carpet bombing at the end of the presentation:
- Zombie Army 4: Dead War, scheduled for an exit (from the cemetery) on 26th April.
- GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon, which is available from now.
- Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles, which without too many words comes the 10nd June.
- Lego brawls, which seems to be LEGO's debut in the increasingly populated and fortunately popular genre of platform fighters, will be here at June.
- Two Point Campus brings his frenzied university to Switch on 17st May.
A curveball, and it's not even the last - Nintendo Direct of February 2024
The youtuber Arlo always says so: those of the Big N never do what we expect. Raise your hand if you among you would have expected that, after years of version 1.0.0, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe he would only now receive DLCs. We certainly would not have gone to think about it, even if the fixed presence of the game in the sales figures should have made us suspicious. Anyway, six packs of two cups (eight tracks) each await us, for a total of other 48 tracks (for a total of 96) between now and the end of 2024, all taken from past Mario Kart (and from the cities seen in Mario Kart Tour). The pre-order (for the whole Pass additional routes) is open from Now a 25 €, but it is included for subscribers to Nintendo Switch Online with add-on package. The first two new cups will arrive on 18 March.
The latest bomb, as scheduled
By now we know Nintendo: never let a Direct end without a bomb after which close the doors and return to the press blackout, and the February 2024 event was very faithful to tradition. The introspective dialogues, between fighting to live and living to fight, leave no doubts: between Aionios and the Chronoflame, it can only be a new role-playing game by Monolith Soft. The appointment with Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set for September 2024, to finally see the worlds of the two previous chapters united. And so ends one of what, for us, is one of the most delusional presentations of the Great N.
